Macintosh OS 9.1 with MacImprint software from
Gerber. The AI plug-in has been rewritten from
the ground up to include dozens of new features.
MacImprint 2.0 does have technical and
compatibility requirements that existing or new

Illustrator 9 will run in the "Classic" or
“Compatibility” mode on Mac OS X 10.1.5, as will MacImprint 2.0
software, but this Operating System is not supported by GSP.
MacImprint will not work with OS X 10.2 due to an “Unknown Print
Monitor Error.” |
| |
Running MacImprint 2.0 in Mac OS X is possible
with the USB version of EDGE printing and plotting. |
| |
The PCI parallel port card is not supported in
Mac OS X, nor are the built-in serial ports of older computers. |
| |
You can print with the USB EDGE cable and plot
with USB to Serial converters that are supported in Mac OS X. Check
the web sites of the vendors who sell USB to Serial converters for
any required drivers for the USB to Serial converters. |

| Please Note the USB Issues Below: |
| |
The GERBER EDGE USB Cable Option is
custom-manufactured for GSP and includes a chip with a device
identification that is unique to the GERBER EDGE and GERBER EDGE 2.
This device identification is necessary for USB communications with
the EDGE or EDGE 2. Do not lose or confuse this cable with other USB
cables! |

The products listed below are available from
local computer stores, or from Macintosh® sales flyers such as Mac
Connection (800-800-2222; www.macconnection.com) or Mac Warehouse
(800?990?0718; www.warehouse.com). Manufacturers include ADS
Technologies, Interex, and Keyspan. These companies are represented
in the sales flyers mentioned above.
- Plotters may require the addition of a
USB-to-Serial Adapter.
Most new Macintosh computers now ship with two USB peripheral
connections and no longer include serial ports. Therefore,
customers will need to purchase a USB-to-Serial Adapter to use
Gerber plotters with the Macintosh. These USB-to-serial adapters
can be purchased for about $80.
- Use a USB Card to add USB connectivity
to non-USB Macintosh units.
If a customer has a Macintosh unit that does not have a USB
connection, plug-in USB cards are also available from the above
vendors for about $40. Customers would buy MacImprint 2.0 with the
plotter cable, a USB card, customers can save money by buying
MacImprint 2.0 with the plotter cable, then adding the GERBER EDGE
USB Cable. The total cost for the MacImprint with Plotter Cable
($495), the USB card (available for about $40) and the EDGE USB
cable ($150) is still substantially less than MacImprint with the
PCI Parallel card ($995).
- Customers may require a Powered USB
Hub.
Because Macintosh computers only have two built-in USB ports,
customers might need to purchase a Powered USB hub (or a USB hub
with a power supply). Like an electrical power strip, a USB hub
converts a single USB port into several USB ports. This will allow
them to plug in their EDGE, plotter (via the USB to serial
adapter), as well as any other USB devices they may have. GSP
currently recommends the use of a Keyspan USB hub. Internal
testing and some field use have indicated that the Belkin hub does
not perform as reliably as the Keyspan hub. Four-port powered USB
hubs can be purchased for about $50. Please note that the
USB-to-Serial Adapter mentioned above DOES work off of a USB hub.
